DOWNLOAD: A Place To Bury Strangers - So Far Away (School of Seven Bells Remix)

School of Seven Bells have taken the lead track from the slightly streamlined new incarnation of A Place To Bury Strangers' Onwards To The Wall EP and given it an even sleeker, smoother, dreamier edge.  Pulling the track closer to their own version of shoegaze, blurring out the focus to a matte finish, setting the action a little ways back in the distance and dropping it into a echo chamber, works nicely, the finished piece turning out to be m
ore satisfying than anything from SoSB own new album.  I guess they work best with ballsier source material.  Maybe APTBS could return the favour by detonating a piece off Ghostory

Here's the original to compare and contrast:

DOWNLOAD: //TENSE// - Pleasure Games

It's late, more than half cut, this is making a lot of sense. //TENSE// always tends to, but at the time of writing, it really does. Just let that throb dig deep into you.  Like they say: "Drank a few beers. Got all sexy."

DOWNLOAD & VIDEO: Regal Safari - Only, Triumph and Light

Here's one of the most intriguing and exciting propositions to have emerged from my Brighton city in a while: Regal Safari.  One pay through the three tracks on their Bandcamp will have you besieged by contemporary comparisons; the first ones that struck me were Balam Acab (or indeed, one side to the TriAngle sound that isn't shaded the colour of Witch House), Solar Bears, Caribou, Blondes, Worriedaboutsatan - lot's of dreamy and spacey artists who evoke elusive and somewhat intangible landscapes built of disembodied vocals, drifting cosmic ambience; sensuality, euphoria.

They're playing the Green Door Store in October and supporting Gazelle Twin in November. Stalk them on Facebook too.

Here's a brand new synapse frazzling remix of similarly awesome category-evading artist Seams' Hung Markets from their Soundcloud, stream three of their own tracks - Only, Triumph and Light - and/or download them all from Bandcamp.

DOWNLOAD: Gem Club - Breakers

Here's the beautiful little self-titled teaser track for the debut full length album Breakers, from the beguilingly sweet Boston duo Gem Club, out September 27th, on Hardly Art.  This track is also available from their Bandcamp site, along with new editions of their excellent debut ep from last summer Acid and Everything.  You can order copies with a pillowcase! Told you they were sweethearts.

I wrote about their ep in November and posted a few videos they made which you can jump to here

DOWNLOAD: Vortex Rikers - One Of Us / A New Dawn

Two new tracks from German witch house ambient duo Vortex Rikers prior to a full album due around Autumn time. Until then One Of Us and A New Dawn exist as ephemeral tracks floating out on their own, two doomy tracts of dark drone rich with a sense of uneasy dangerous fragility about them, a character borne from eerie modulation and half light figures that swish through the mist, the tolling bell melodies and the haunting slash and slap of beats and hi hats. Vortex Rikers are one of the most consistent and prolific acts around with a sizeable collection of releases available from their Bandcamp and Soundcloud.  These two new pieces meld into their catalogue like appartitions drifting through fog, cutting new shapes in the gloomy fabric of the bands aesthetic. Two more excellent additions to their canon.

DOWNLOAD: GuMMy†Be▲R! - HAARP (Grey Tongue Remix)

GuMMy†Be▲R!
has a new remix up on his Soundcloud from my mix cover design man and other half in Potemkjin Village - Chris Makes - under his remixer guise of Grey Tongue. Witch House meets glitch, glitch eats witch house, dances about with limbs swinging round it's head, meat hanging out it's mouth, looking all wild eyed, twitchy and lunatic. Composes itself briefly then has a roll about kicking up more carnage.

PREVIEW: Railcars - Big Sky (Pre-Order Hounds Of Love LP)

The mighty AmDiscs is set to release a new album from the even mightier Railcars in June and I've been listening to a preview track from it titled Big Sky. It's a Kate Bush song. All the tracks on the album are Kate Bush covers. It's going to blow your tiny mind into a glittering chandelier of smithereens that you'll blissfully lie back gaze at, your entire mental being twinkling in refracting light patterns above your transfixed physical shell.

Railcars are one of those bands that hit you right upside the head the moment you clap ears on them.  Formed in 2007, the band is the sole creation of Aria Jalali but he is joined by others for live shows.  This track is a sleeker departure from the fiery aural ambushes of the two LPs he has put out Cities Vs Submarines and Cathedral With No Eyes - both those were awesomely loud digitised rock productions, but this has a smoother, leaner sensibility, reigning in some of the spikier chaos, but leaving chaos there nonetheless. The garbled vocals spiralling around the climax of glitching keys and stuttering beats is a little vortex to suck your third eye into. An excellent omen for the impending full length.

Preorder the album from HERE.

DOWNLOAD: Holy Other - Touch

This track debuted on Gorilla Vs. Bear & Altered Zones yesterday and it's getting a starry-eyed repost from me to underscore/overstate how highly I rate this artist - a simple RT wouldn't do.  One of the greatest artists to have emerged from the margins of the witch house scene, the Berlin-based Mancunian Holy Other will be releasing his second record, the12" With U on Tri Angle on 6th June.  Seems a long time to wait, but I lasted a full 6 months on Yr Love and We Over so I can go two on this one beautiful pulsing burst of electro-cosmic R&B.  It's swirling firmament pierced with 8-bit blips, incoming radar signals of alien, otherworldy origin towing universally recognised symbols of romance in their wake - starbursts, moon beams and solar flares. The peaks engulf the speakers in fantastical euphoria, the basslines carry eddies of dark matter and your mere human ears are locked betwixt the two; stultefied into trance and blissful submission.  No idea what happens when this drops onto dancefloors; I guess people start to slowly fuck each other into serenity.

Dragged Into Sunlight - Boiled Angel

Unholy blackened UK sludge from the quite well named Dragged Into Sunlight. They re-released one of their two 2009 albums earlier this year, with a brand new one planned in the coming months.  So you can have this as a teaser.

I'm deep into a doom trip right now.

DOWNLOAD: Dark Castle - Seeing Through Time

From the Brooklyn Vegan website's Soundcloud alongside an interview with Stevie Floyd in a preview to their forthcoming Surrender To All Life Beyond Form album on Profound Lore - DARK CASTLE are back. Their debut made my top 20 albums of the year when it was released a couple of years back and this track alone makes it look like the follow up will be a strong contender again. The breakdown hellstorm of cymbal and feedback carnage at the end is indicative enough, the album artwork ups the ante on the visual side - the horseback black widow of Spirited Migration replaced by an energy pouring third eye.  All signs point to awesome (I USE THAT WORD TOO MUCH - FUCK IT, LET THIS CRUSH THE LIGHT FROM YR SYNAPSES)

DOWNLOAD & VIDEO: GuMMy†Be▲R! - Night With No Light Feat. ZOMBELLE

It appears Herr GuMMy†Be▲R! has fully dispensed with all the deviance and aural torture of his embryonic tracks and has now fully inducted himself into a twilight zone of producing left-field euphoric house. The sounds in this are so sweet, his tone palatte getting richer with each release. I'm really after a full 8-minute anthem from him, he keeps putting out these sub 4-minute pop shots that are all killer but could really do with an extended workout to flex their full potential.

This new one if from his upcoming Oakland ep, video made by Zombelle

VIDEO: Moths - Hearts

Beautiful new track from Newbridge, Ireland based solo artist Moths (aka Jack Colleran) who joins the likes of Worriedaboutsatan, Vision Air, Solar Bears, and Hunter Gatherer in the rapidly swelling pantheon of luxuriously haunting ambient electronic producers. His Last.fm bio says he is 17 - Seventeen! Incredibly subtle and nuanced stuff from such a young artist - teenagers not being reknowned for either of those qualities.

New track <3 has a suitably evocative video - all burning blue sky, lens flare, sexualised whimsy - from Synaethesiae Films, who produced one of my favourite clips from last year in the form of Solar Bears' Dolls No idea where the footage is from, and I'm not so sure I'd be up for a roll in the sand, but they look so happy who could take anything from them? Not even me.

Moths has a SOUNDCLOUD and a BANDCAMP, whichever you prefer for keeping your ears tuned in, with four tracks available to download for free from either:

DOWNLOAD: Asobi Seksu - Trails (Holy Other Remix)

US shoegaze duo Asobi Seksu release their fourth album Flourescence this week on Polyvinyl. They have a video for the lead single Trails that played out on Pitchfork TV yesterday. Somewhat more interestingly is this remix from German cosmic drag producer Holy Other, whose two tracks, We Over and Yr Love were some of the most entrancing tracks to emerge from some umbral constellation of witchhouse, dubstep and other ephemeral genre sound signifiers. Drifting distinct from the rest in a year that went very far out indeed, he has been enlisted here to add his aura to a band that have always shown a lot of promise but never really delivered quite what I always anticipate them to and the glassy-eyed spin he rolls onto this remix adds just the kind of thing I need from them; less jangle, more star spangle.

There's also a remix from a similarly out-there duo Painted Palms and Deerhoof. The latter, you're already familiar with, the former maybe not so much - they have an album of joyously radiant neon ~wave for free download from their BANDCAMP - worth a whole post in itself.

DOWNLOAD: The Ravonettes - Forget That You're Young

You might not have seen this coming from me, but I do absolutely love me a bit of Ravonettes, so I'm posting this up for posterity on the blog.  In anticipation of the album Raven In The Grave, released on 5th April through Vice records, they have made Forget That You're Young available as a free download.  It's another really lovely piece of drifting wintery doo-wop Spector rock from the Danish two-piece. Looking forward to the full album.

VIDEO: Vondelpark - Hippodrome / California Analogue Dream

Here's a pair of videos from a beautifully nostalgic sounding electronic artist from London (by way of California) called Vondelpark, that makes the second of todays two things that maybe shouldn't be seen.

I have been in two minds about posting the video to Hippodrome. The chiming liquid ambience is one part Chillwave, another part electronica from the shores of Forest Swords; 2-step debased through close proximity to a year out in the wilderness of witch house; where the Wirral resident uses the misty sounds ouf Mesyside as the foundations for his sound, Vondelpark uses his childhood relationship with California to define his productions, recasting the last few years through a half-remembered heat shimmer.

As for the video, here we go: I know what he's trying to achieve with this lost childhood summer memory thing, but it's just a little girl in a swimsuit. Makes me somewhat uncomfortable.  I'm imagining that the girl is his sister and these are holiday films from their childhood, which may or may not sway opinion either way. But is that me projecting my own dark peversity on an innocuously innocent image. Well, is it? IS IT?  Dunno. Do I like the challenge it sets me?  I like the music enough on its own to risk posting it and getting the blog raided by both the lawless and the Law.

The second video, to California Analog Dream mines a similar hypnagogic memorybank and is less controversial, featuring only long shots of fully clothed children gambolling about some British summer-beaten grey dunes.  Really evocative stuff, yes, but in the wrong hands.....!?!

Two other tracks for download can be yours here too:

Jetlag
Start Life (Be Side Version)

He has a 12" available from R&S Records which you can order HERE. It features the two tracks on these videos, Jetlag and Backflip (In The Sauna).

Twilight Owls

Twilight Owls is one of my favourite artists on the awesome AMDISCS label, with a free download available from their page that I've had on repeat since they posted it up. He just made a new tumblr blog with nothign on it yet, but keep your eye on it and see what happens.

He's a solo dronesman mixing song styles with outward looking tones - think Sun Araw, Barn Owl, Pocahaunted, Ducktails rolled over and dragged across the Russian tundra - he can move from subtle to raw to roar with the flick of a switch and does so compellingly across the tracks strewn across MySpace and AmDiscs in the various bands he plays in. He drums in two bands that are on hold at present, Радиолюбитель and He Called Himself Jesus, but he also has an active and very very promising thing going on in the form of Khmury; a psych collaboration with Prea Hrada, in which they take a atmospheric setting, play with the nuances of it, flexing and tensing; building up to a full on galloping charge.

Here's a download and video of them in action.

PREORDER: Islet - Wimmy

I am just discovering Islet . They're quite a propulsive, rhythm heavy take on post-indie-rock, although that's as weak a dropped genre as any and doesn't explain their sound so much, but it's a sound that certainly takes a lead from the epic scope of the Explosions In The Sky or And So I Watch You From Afar's of this world, whilst also retaining a very Indie sensibility at it's core - illustrated by recent tour dates with Los Campesinos! It's the vocal deliveries that lock them down into the realm of indie, but there's so much other stuff going on it runs off as a free-flowing hybrid of tone and dynamics influenced by everyone from Can to Campesionos.

A mini-album titled Wimmy is due for release as a 12" & download on 11th October from Shape Records (Turnstile).  You can download the free teaser track Ringerz HERE which has the feel of Afrirampo in the shuddering delay of H.Hawkline's yelped vocals.

Full tracklist:

Powys
Ringerz
Horses And Dogs
Dust Of Ages
Living In Manila
Obtaining

PreOrder Wimmy and buy their previous 12" Celebrate This Place now from Rough Trade HERE

Here's another, slightly different, insight into the bands sound from that last ep Celebrate This Place, that was released this summer.

They have no MySpace, but that's no big deal no more, they're ahead of the game there. No new bands will this time next year, for sure. ByeSpace!

VIDEO: Holy Other - Yr Love

Cannot get enough of Holy Other at the moment, in particular this track: Yr Love. The Berlin based producer has sewn together the loose strands of current electronic music incorporating (consciously or not) hypnagogic pop, witch house, drag and ambient minimalism to create a 7" with a physically magnetic allure. It's such a beautiful slow-motion space-walk, like a Detroit street party held in orbit; layers of cosmic synths trails piling up on each other, blown to the solar winds as the soul vocals softly collide together. This video reminds me a lot of the recent Forest Swords video for Rattling Cage, it has the same washed out leached sepia tones and detached atmosphere that complements the music perfectly; as well as the religious overtones - more pertient here, what with the astral sounds of the music alluding to the glorious all-pervasive euphoris besowed upon us humalings by everyone's favourite sky friend.

FACT Magazine have also posted this extended pulsing ten-minute house remix from New York producer Physical Therapy

DOWNLOAD: SALEM - I BURIED MY HEART INNA WOUNDED KNEE

REPOST FROM XLR8R

No strangers to the world of fucked-up, screwed-down internet mixtapes, Salem has just released their I BURIED MY HEART INNA WOUNDED KNEE set of weird-sounding shit, which you can download here. No tracklist, no description, no nuthin'. Just some rope.
