DOWNLOAD: Beko / Skrot Up Split Compilation

Beko / Skrot Up Records
Split Compilation

DOWNLOAD

Here's another excellent split comp from beautifully rendered French digital label Beko, this time carving it up with Swedish carnage curators Skrot Up - A record and cassette label dedicated to "slowed down dirges, strange sounds, punchy beats, 8-bit manifestos, prolonged explorations of lateral thinking, synth creepers, warped pop, syrupy industrial and weird metallic clatter."

As extensive as that it it barely even coves half the stacked-up smoke damaged tracks that rattle and hum across this mix.  It starts off with a band I've waxed on before - Endless Endless Endless; a free-floating improv psych duo from the States that slowly ratchet up the cosmic tension that is dissapated over the following tracks.  There's some crudity that doesn't quite come off in Public Pubes' track but everything else finds it's place and hits its own zone hard. There's a crepuscular, sepulchural take on I Wanna Be Your Dog by The Portable Morla, a grimy slab of hairy drone appropriately titled Loopgoat but Venganza de Cochino's Vengeance of the Scum is the highlight for me; a borderline ridiculous mix of black metal shrieking, death growls set to an industrial-electro thob and buzz-saw guitars that develops into a a sleek and deadly dropped shoulder groove that pummels and hisses to a close.

The download comes packed full of links to all bands and extra links to labels, so feel free to follow up at your leisure peril leisure.  Beko are very thorough in their releases, and to the anally retentive like me, that makes them all the more appealing.

DOWNLOAD: Beko / Clandestine Records Compilation

Beko DSL/Clandestine Records
DOWNLOAD

Another awesome team-up with BekoDSL, the French free netlabel, after their split with La Station Radar at the end of last year, here comes another, even more intimidating set of tracks. This is Beko / Clan Destine Records collaboration of dark and sinister tracks from both label's eeriest artists. If you're not already familiar with most of these artists then there's every chance there's something in here for you; these labels overlap in the shadowy recesses of dark ambient, drone and witch house; Beko providing the whiter light to Clandestine's pulsing black strobe tracks.

When the clap beats really connect and twist with the trance you get GuMMy†Be▲R!; when the vocals come in all mournful and windswept against a craggy grey backdrop you get GHXST; then the camera pulls out and you get the widescreen panoramic treatments of Among the Bones and Malibu Wands; dark ugliness erupts from the bowels of the earth under the influence of Mater Suspiria Vision and all hell blows out through the amps of Sealings, garbled up into the last-signal-on-Earth radio transmissions of Fostercare and Modern Witch. Pop music as you knew it, once – in a memory or a dream, buried, rotten, exhumed, reanimated.

Lots of ground covered in a parallel to the Mishka Grave Wave Comp, lots of new uncovered little nooks and crannies of this nebulous and loosely knit genre uncovered here.

In their own words, this compilation is:

“†HE SOUNDTRACK †O ¥R ORGASMIC DEMISE, NO†HING IS †RUE, EVER¥†HING IS PERMI††ED.”
Links to all the artists sites are included in the download

Gremlynz - I Have To Be Leaving / Crystal Hexes

Two new preview tracks from upcoming releases of the Gremlynz incarnation of Pink Priest.  The first is I Have To Be Leaving due to come out as a Beko / La Station Radar label collaboration (coming up next).   The second is an excerpt from the track Crystal Hexes - a 32 minute tape to be released on Family Time which he describes as"if previous Gremlynz sound was "being dropped into 10,000 gallons of water," Crystal Hexes is more like
"getting caught in a heavy downpour while walking down the street.""
It's quite an apt description, which can be romanticised further if you imagine it in black and white so the distorting contrast blurs your vision even further, shapes shifting about the enveloping liquid static.

There's a lengthy, detailed description of all he's been getting up to and what's in store for his three or four (or three) projects over on his God of Blues blog.

The third boxset compilation from the consistently excellent Beko Records netlabel is a rollcall of Witch House innovators; featuring the original and arguably one of the best protagonists Mater Suspiria Vision plus member \\\^◊^///. There's really no weak track on here - the hi-toned rippling trill, grimy drum beat and quivering melody of High Park's Childrag, then Space Odyssey 2015's ring modulating disintegrating cosmic drag; D3thplay's deeper excursion down the industrial route implodes into the centre of the boxset with WYTCHHAUSNATION and a throbbing drag remix of Above & Beyond's Can't Sleep that let's the reverbed beats drift right out of the mix to let the vocal swirl around before trickling back in over the top of them, really subtly intense. The third section acts as a kind of comedown to the more motorik tracks before it, in the abstracted noise and sound collage from Residual Prophecy with the whole thing finished off with the more trancendental drone oriented tracks of ZΘN

Not only are all the tracks on here capable of capturing your aural attention in emotive ways - right from the off with MSV's anguised yelp and deeply portentious synths-of-doom intro - but the whole thing works as an exploratory album across sounds and into the current state of Witch House and it's orbiting subgenres (or the genres which it orbits around and takes it's cues from), illustrating a genre that still has plenty of space to move and direction to head in.

Beko Records - Modern Witch / Mater Suspiria Vision / Madame O und Ihre Kopffilm Bande Split ep

Here at Not For Resale we love a good netlabel - quality free music is always welcome round our place - so what happens if that music also comes with some awesome artwork and a tidy horizontally slidy website? Well, we blow our top that's what.

Beko Records - http://www.beko-dsl.com- is a singles label offering free downloadable releases from a range of genred artists and they have a nice line in 2D block colour sleeve designs too.

Prettypretty artworks and lots of great releases; Memoryhouse, Wild Safari, Idiot Glee, Hanging Coffins – all cool! And loads more too, all free.

They have just released their first split single, called Beko Box 1, featuring Modern Witch, Mater Suspiria Vision and Madame O und Ihre Kopffilm Bande (XH of Mater Suspiria Vision and Cosmotropia de Xam)

The Mater Suspiria track is as you'd expect; Layers and phases of heavy reverb ghost drone delay strung up and freaked out to the max - same goes for the Cosmotropia collaboration too. But it's the Modern Witch track Cinema that breaks the mould and sends chills down the spine.  It's utter genius. A dark groove locked down into a twisting cycle that shifts into some hi-frequency atmospheric spaces. It's a lot more hi-fidelity than their previous releases, and certainly a lot more 'House'. This is the sound of Witch House developing into a more interesting dimension. Between Balam Acab and this track, the next phase of this genre may well be happening right now.
