VIDEO: Wooden Shjips - Black Smoke Rise
Colour me psyched about seeing Wooden Shjips at End of the Road festival in a couple of weeks. A band that really makes more sense live - by virtue of smashing your own senses into fractal shards of blues rock repetition.

VIDEO: Mountains - Blue Lanterns on East Oxford
The new Mountains album is incredible, simply put. The duo of Brendon Anderegg and Koen Holtkamp have developed, and in some ways eclipsed the deeply resonant layes of textures that copiled 2009's Choral. Air Museum channels it's acoustic instruments through analogue pedals and hardware instead of the software previously used for an even warmer finish to the sound. The relationship betwen the layers of instrument is less about goading each other toward a peak and more about rhythmic interplay and coulouring in the details of the journey rather than focussing on the end itself.
Here's the promo video for Blue Lanterns on East Oxford.

VIDEO: Eternal Tapestry - Galactic Derelict
Literally psyched in every sense that Eternal Tapestry have another record coming out, on Thrill Jockey no less, titled Beyond the 4th Door. It's out on March 15 and available now for pre-order now. This band features Jed Bindeman of Heavy Winged fame on drums, and his brother Nick from Jackie-O Motherfucker, Dewey Mahood from the way-out backwoods Plankton Wat and dub deep trio Edibles - the signs are there, aligned in blazing bright starbursts, that this is a band you should already be locked in to. They're also from Portland, Oregon, which is also home to about a hundred other essential bands at this moment in time - everyone out there is tapped into something seriously intense.
The full album is a 45 minute edit of a live session played out for who knows how long - the essential elements being distilled down into a final collection for release. Read a load more intricate detail about the band's history and the forthcoming album on the label's website HERE
Now feast your ears on this gargantuan lead track and accompanying eerie sci-fi video:

VIDEO: Barn Owl - Light from the Mesa
Very exciting sneak preview of the new Barn Owl album, Ancestral Star, out in November on Thrill Jockey. The track is geologically paced, crawling from a promordial soup of swampy tones with submerged vocals dragged out of the depths as the sun breaks across the suitably awesome video of snatched half-light naturalism.

Boa Drum 77 Preview
Thrill Jockey have put out this trailer for Boredoms' 77 Boa Drum: Like the bearded dude says; "It's the Birth of the Galaxy".
Directed by Jun Kawaguchi, it documents the preparation and performance of the massive 77 drummer Brooklyn event from 2007. Not as big as the 88 drummer fest at Le Brea Tar Pits in LA in 2008, but that's not the point - 77 drummers is more rhythm than a mind can focus on! An elemental transcendental force Yamantaka Eye's fractal hydra of a drum circle is essential viewing as much as listening for the vast spectacle of it all.
The DVD drops on September 7th.
