DOWNLOAD: Elvis Depressedly - Selfless Violence (Self-Released)
Deep black trance from Los Angeles with a Bandcamp page header that simply says DEATH 2 AMERICA. The sombre tones of the music suggest she already died with this the soundtrack to the wake.
Recorded straight to tape then upped to the internet, there's a definite bedroom quality to these five pieces. Completely murky and garbled lo-fi productions, that peak into the muddied red on the final track Life Sentence, is an aesthetic that's been driven into the ground, yet it's still consistently compelling when it's used to swamp out good ideas and here, despite the unsophisticated equipment and sounds involved, things becomes all the more emotionally arresting because of the wounded nature of the recordings.
Opener Bummer Dreams starts off in muted coruscating form, then quickly pans out to a softer, choral vocal loop with a more melodic drift than it initially suggested. Boy Satan swirls about in holotropic eddies that wash over each other threatening to capsize the progression of the track with a grace approaching euphoria when compared to the weaker title track which is the least developed and thinnest sounding of all the pieces. Turn Blue redresses things by washing back out of the speakers in elegant form, then on again to the soupy murk of the closing track.
Very promising, if indeed there is more to come at all, which with a project like this could easily go either way by running over with improvisations or dry up and reform in another project.
Oh yeah, and that name. It's not Com Truise or Back Stabbath, but I like it.

Last year I posted up some of Dominic Tiberio's free Felt Drawings mp3s that he'd posted on his website, along with the links to two eps on his Bandcamp page. Hearing just the first few bars of his music insipred on of those urgent post immediatly responses. Something heavy is going on here and it needs spreading and my response to hearign this album has been no different. That he has released his first full length album as a FREE DOWNLOAD is an act of deviant generosity in the same vein of spirit that imbues all of the tracks on it. Like rolling Cold Cave's Loves Comes Close and Cremations together into a darkane concoction of fizzing hissing sleek pop silhouettes. there's the shadowy presence of Blank Dogs lurking in the background, as well as all their own original 80's forbears - In My Room even buries an echo of the Knight Rider theme into its pulsing background synth strata.
Baroque and theatrical, shady and withdrawn; these tracks simultaneously sound bedroom-bound and theatre sized, the smells of grimy industrial sweat and musty velvet stage wings mingling as the effects of the songs shift mood, atmosphere and intent. Definitely an album that will be getting a lot of plays out of me.

Felt Drawings
Felt Drawings is the electronic/experimental/pop project of Los Angeles based Dominic Tiberio. The borderline twee name belies a darker sound behind it. Similar to other subterranean ~wavers like Cold Cave, Xiu Xiu, Blank Dogs or a downtempoed Railcars - by way of skittery beats, overloaded circuitry, guitar fuzz and blown out production it also shares a cleaner more serene claustrophobic atmosphere along the lines of the XX or Mount Kimbie. It's a combination of sounds that can trace a chilly path down your spine whilst keeping your synapses peaked - straddling current music memes like chillwave and witch house whilst cutting a bit of an individual road away from anything easily definable.
Here's a youtube of him at his most ambient, with In My Room that bears a strong resemblance to Basic Space, but ramps up the darker noisy elements, like the creepy cousin that never really opens it's mouth when it talks.
