VIDEO / DOWNLOAD: Blissed Out - Drones (Ritualz Remix)

Where did witch house go?  It just ate itself and regurgitated it into an pulse quickening collaboration with neon aacid vomit visuals.  Gnarly retro-active blog music from the blistered fingertips of Blissed Out given a relentless rescrub by dark artisan Ritualz

Download from the Soundcloud or from Mediafire if that's all gone (which it probably has at the time of writing).

DOWNLOAD: GuMMy†Be▲R! - Sleeping In Dubai

Gorgeous new track from GuMMy†Be▲R!, Sleeping In Dubai is another landmark in Gummy's output of steadily subtle and detailed productions hitting just the right place between club beats and beach daze. Totally sucking up the close feel of 100% humid 20 degree night air and slowly pouring it out over silky insistent beats and a salacious hook, this track is so seductively smooth and hot it has to be one of his finest.

VIDEO: Kotki Dwa - Halloween

Kotki Dwa were one of my favourite bands when I started up NFR and I played a lot of tracks off their demos albums out a lot then they seemed to slip out of sight. They've got a really chirpy quirky sound going on on, a good sense of humour and more importantly, they know pop hooks and they know beautiful tones to make their pop hooks out of.  I got a genuine little flutter of excitement when I found out they were reanimated, with a creepy 50's horror film style video for their comeback track (why not) Halloween; shot on Super 8mm film by Loopshapers.

They've also given the track away as an mp3. They're so lovely!

Felt Drawings

Felt Drawings is the electronic/experimental/pop project of Los Angeles based Dominic Tiberio. The borderline twee name belies a darker sound behind it. Similar to other subterranean ~wavers like Cold Cave, Xiu Xiu, Blank Dogs or a downtempoed Railcars - by way of skittery beats, overloaded circuitry, guitar fuzz and blown out production it also shares a cleaner more serene claustrophobic atmosphere along the lines of the XX or Mount Kimbie. It's a combination of sounds that can trace a chilly path down your spine whilst keeping your synapses peaked - straddling current music memes like chillwave and witch house whilst cutting a bit of an individual road away from anything easily definable.

Here's a youtube of him at his most ambient, with In My Room that bears a strong resemblance to Basic Space, but ramps up the darker noisy elements, like the creepy cousin that never really opens it's mouth when it talks.

So here we are; big post number 100!

To mark this momentous occasion we are starting off our new monthly download mix series with a unique combination of basslines and contact mics:

NFR Mix March 2010

Certain musics lend themselves well to each other in concept, but whether that means they should ever be put together in reality is another matter entirely. For this mix I combined textures from across the tracks – the clean and elegant timbres of soul intoned dubstep with the soil rolled dirt of electrified feral atmospherics. Plus a mind-flipping twist in the middle hopefully. It’s taken me a long time to realise that I could blend these together, and there are a few places where it works better than I could have hoped – the grimy sawtooth frequencies of Family Battle Snake that puncture the Untold track; the way the violins in Endless Falls tie Pangea and Joy Orbison together, adding a melancholy hum that enhances the soul elements of both tracks further. We didn't save this for our hundredth post for no reason! Now, if only I could properly beatmatch I would be dangerous.

Thanks for downloading. Enjoy!
