SAVE THE BRIGHTON FREEBUTT!!!

Many Brighton gig goers will already know the unstable recent history of the Freebutt, and yet again it is under threat of closure from the Council and Environental Health.
The Freebutt is one of the landmark venues on the international touring circuit; it is not only renowned in Brighton but the world over. Taking it away would be a cultural disaster equal to the shutting down of CBGB's in New York. The current owners and promotors are making a significant positive impact on a variety of musics both locally and internationally. It would be a senseless loss to an enormous number of people; made all the more galling by the absurdity of the circumstances involving the complaint and it's investigation.

NFR DJ set at Oneohtrix Point Never!!

We have another special DJ set coming up at The Penthouse for the night that Oneohtrix Point Never and Tomutonttu play - we have been invited to do this because he is playing which we're pretty psyched about - thanks Freebutt guys!  We'll be playing some suitable accompaniment to the tone of the night – although regular readers of our blog will know how far we like to stretch our interpretation of ‘suitable’!

I've been confirmed as DJ for the Penthouse, above the Freebutt for the night that Oneohtrix Point Never plays.  Will be me and Chris, so it will effectively be a SwännS))) DJ set.  Since we consider this an awesomely special event, we'll probably be recording some special SwännS))) track for the night to play upstairs and will be doing a bit of live action jiggery fuck-aboutery in a psychedelic decks 'n'n fx style. Sort of.  It will be a pretty special event, but we promise it will be totally listenable.

PREVIEW: NFR Thursday 7th May

This Thursday, 7th May it's Not For Resale day! Me and Fokka Wolfe will be up at the Penthouse in Brighton for our monthly residency with a huge stack of new and future records for you. Everyone is coming out of hibernation now that spring is in the air (along with a scorching sun on occasion) starting the season of major activity with labels and bands - It's the run up to the summer festival mayhem, so it's album releases for everyone! Welcome to NFR BLOG!

After 3 years out in the wilderness of MySpazz we have decided (and finally got round to) making a Not For Resale Blog. Hooray and Welcome!

Not For Resale is the Brighton based DJ night, promotions - and now Blog-happy! - duo of Meatbreak and Fokka Wolfe. Being Brighton based we're going to plug a load of local shows and bands because it makes sense to care more about the stuff we can see than the stuff we can't and we're more likely to know about it. Our range though, is the entire world.

We're into music of many stripes, as you will discover. It will be all new new stuff from the deepest depths, most colourful crannies and farthest reaches of the underground, cyberspace and the real world....To make sense of it all, we'll be posting up reviews, news, demos, mixes and downloads as well as setlists from our regular DJ night and our jaunts as guest DJs at other events around town.

On the subject of lists - we will never post a meaningless list of band names with no info. Shoot us down if you catch us doing it.

We can be found at The Penthouse above The Freebutt on the first Thursday of every month if you want to come see and hear in the flesh, but for now and for here, this is the place for our words and pictures.
