FFFF: FASTEST

For this weeks Fast and Furious Friday Feature I am giving you someone who really steals the crown in this event by being called Fastest and producing some of the most furious hypermangled drum machine propelled synth-core you can imagine. Not only that, but it's weird as green shit to boot. It's a lot of things all thrown into a rabid engine and revved up to the max. No Last.fm You try Googling for Fastest!  He has a YouTube channel featuring a lot of handbreak turn shock circuitry overloaded onto weird videos, like this one.

FFFF: Aosoth - Angels Falling Down

Haven't done a Fast and Furious Friday Feature for a few weeks, but this one is going to hit them back into focus hard.  Pure Satanic French Black Metal from Aosoth. A nation well versed in the most ferocious forms of devotional ritual. Angels Falling Down is from split release with countrymen VI on Necroterror Records.

FFFF: Braiden - The Alps

I don't mean to post harsh and fast as lightning black metal for each of the Fast and Furious Friday Features
 but that's the way it usually goes, but I;m changing things today, even if the bpm of this is about 100 below what I usually post, doesn't mean it's got no momentum. Braiden's track the Alps has been on constant rotation at mine for months and I've overlooked it for too long.  If your ears are anywhere near the bass ripples of the dubstep scene then you'll know what this already - released in November on Joy Orbison's Doldrums label; If this is all news to you, you're in for the treat of your winter. The way the elements of the track keep building up, overlapping, multiplying sends the brain into a twitching hyperactive trance.  Imagine this pouring out a wall of speakers. IMAGINE!

FFFF: Inquisition - Cosmic Invocation Rites / Desolate Funeral Chant

I'm still going to be well into these Fast and Furious Friday Features in 2011, not least becasue they're an excuse to post some hypnotically vast black metal tracks that I might not manage to crowbar into your cerebellum any other way.  I can't decide which of these to give you, so I've picked two - one is less violent and more of a...well, as it says, Desolate Funeral Chant, so in case that misses the criteria for this post I've also given you Cosmic Invocation Rites, the track that follows it on the album Ominous Doctrines of the Perpetual Mystical Macrocosm. From mystic trance to physical assault and back again.

FFFF: Purling Hiss - Passenger Queen

This week's Fast and Furious Friday Feature comes from Purling Hiss, with a new video for Passenger Queen off their/his (it's the solo work of Michael Polizze of Birds of Maya).  Released a couple of albums this year, one slightly more ferocious and blown out than the other. You'd be wrong to think this was off the harder one, and that's why I've got it blasting you into Friday afternoon. 

UKBMW XVIII: FFFF - Anaal Nathrakh

Yes, even this week I have a Fast and Furious Friday Feature to throw down, or should I say especially this week, because over ten years after it was recorded there is still little in the Black Metal pantheon (which is to say in any musical pantheon) that can rival this track for pure unbridled misanthropic hostility.

The Birmingham duo of V.I.T.R.I.O.L. (Dave Hunt) and Irrumator (Mick Kenney) formed Anaal Nathrakh in 2008 and are continuing masters in producing catastrophic industrial strength Black Metal ultraviolence. If Atari Teenage Riot made black metal, this is how they would do it.  This album was released as we ticked over into the new millenium and there are still very few pieces of music that can match the ferocity with which this track sucks up energy and multiplies the intensity tenfold with each new wave it smashes down upon the listener.

FFFF: Necrite - Bereft of Hope

I'm not trying to post a black metal track up every time for the Fast and Furious Friday Feature, but at the moment I am being overrun by excellent releases so the temptation is too strong to avoid. This week I give you cosmic Californian misanthropes Necrite and their track Bereft of Hope from the Flenser released album Sic Transit Gloria Mundi.

Don't let the somewhat unoriginal title put you off, the album is unique in its mix of mid-tempo deliberation and ambient sections of obsidian darkness, this is an album of Lovecraftian galactic horror, pulling down the firmament and staring straight through its eyes. The chilling pace erupts into faster sections, like the one I have for you here.  This track doesn't cover the full range of sound the album has, nor the full emotional effect, missing out some of the trancier elements. The title track is an enormous 27 minute oddyssey that builds over 14 minutes of brewing tension and black ambience until it suddenly blasts out into a lightning fast crescendo; the final Sunn O))) worshipping doom drone track acts like a dying star's gravitational pull on the end of the album, sucking everything that went before into a terminal abyss of finality.

FFFF: Satanic Warmaster - One Shining Star

This weeks Fast and Furious Friday Feature is a new track from one of the old guard of black Northern trance masters, channeling the same feral anti-cosmic violence that sheared off the mountainsides of Europe twenty years ago; a nasty, vengeful buzzing murk that blazes with intent, elevated with a primitive euphoria. FFFF: Black Sun - The Soldier's Prayer

 For today's Fast and Furious Friday Feature I give you something that pulls towards the Furious more than the Fast,with Scotland's Black Sun.  This is one of the most crushing and relentless tracks of the new Twilight Of The Gods album, but I could only find it in demo form. Either way, it's still an immense track.

FFFF: Weapon - Furor Divinus

This week's Fast and Furious Friday Feature is another savage assault from the Black Metal paradigm; this time it's Weapon, from Canada. The Canuck just seem to have an extra element of spite and violence in everything they come out with. must be the temperatures, everything from Conqueror to WOLD is immensly ferocious in an elemental manner and this is no different, though it has an almost melodic, hella catchy dynamism to it.  The new album, From the Devil's Tomb is out on Monday on Agonia Records, so this doubles as your teaser for that.

FFFF: Pissed Jeans - Sam Kinison Woman

Hello Friday; here's your Fast and Furious Feature. Brace yourself, cos this one's got a bite on it.  Have Pissed Jeans always sounded this much like Wire and Mission of Burma, or is it an influenced they've just slipped roofie-like into this single shot of burning-eyed cold-shouldered hard edge that's comin' swingin' for ya.  The single is out on SubPop any time soon.  Here's what they say about the track themselves:

FFFF: Keränen

This week's Fast and Furious Friday Feature should freshen you up for the weekend good and proper.

Keränen is the solo electronics noise project of Tommi Keränen, and Bats In The Attic is his first release under his own name, after putting stuff out on his own as Testicle Hazard, Gentle Evil, Les Manures (with Mr Umpio).  He's also played with Incapacitants, Pymathon and many others in random ad hoc line ups.Here's a track off the album for you - released on Pica Disc now

I don't put enough pure Noise noise up on this blog.  Getting dosed up on this hard wired short circuited Nordic swamp noise gabba jabber is making me nostalgic for the time when this is almost all I listened to.

FFFF: Witchrist - Deathbitch

This is the Fast and Furious Friday Feature for you today.  Ritualistic occult oriented New Zealand based blackened death metal filth trance band Witchrist.  Their sound is similar to Teitenblood, a humid churning atmopshereic airlessness, but this has a little bit more space than that, and also reminds me of Black Witchery the way the cymbals crash like shattering glass.  It's a fucking horrible soundscape with addictive momentum.

FFFF: Krieg - All Paths To God

Stereogum posted this track a while ago, but it's going to be today's Fast and Furious Friday Feature, because the album - The Isolationist - is only a month away and I've been listening to this track a lot more recently in anticipation. The renaissance in black metal across the entire world continues to redefine the genre and visionary artists such as Krieg continue to illuminate minds with their inspired blaze of hostile black fire.  This track begins with a guttural, grinding bassline definitively black metal in essence, yet punching from a shifted paradigm of tone and dynamic that USBM has positioned itself in over the last few years. The mid-section acknowledges the wintery old school then around 4 minutes there comes a total change in direction, atmosphere and pace that is an absolutely shocking stroke of genius:

FFFF: Zeitgeister Records Sampler

For today's Fast and Furious Friday Feature I'm giving you not one, not two but a whole sampler full of high velocity mayhem to contend with!! 

German Black Metal distro/label Zeitgeister Records has a Soundcloud sampler up and running showcasing a whole range of blackened sounds, from the kinetic Klabautamann, to the more doomy lumberings of Woburn House.  Black metal is having a bit of a renaissance at the moment I feel; It;s kicking off again over in the US, the UK is going back to its Pagan roots and these German artists all have a lot going on for them, especially the Owl track, which is as infectious and addictive as it is mysterious - no web presence for them at all.

Today's Fast and Furious Friday Feature is another grim one - Castevet's Grey matter from their Profound Lore relased album Mouth of Ash.

A USBM band utilising shades of hardcore and grind - dropped shoulder bunched up muscle headcharges of testosterone injected into the tense tranceouts of the black metal template.

FFFF: Black Bug -The Wave

For this Friday's Fast and Furious Feature I've got Swedish two piece garage electro rock band The Black Bug. They released a self-titled album at the start of the year on Philadelphia label FDH that has 15 short little bursts of the kind of petro-chemical future rock and roll that sort of went down with the Sonic Mook Experiment, but this is more Swedish and still kickin' it in 2010 - that means, harder, fiercer, darker, more distorted.

This is more like it. When we say fast and furious we really fuckin' mean it with this one. Bone Awl's I Feel Tension from the Sunless Xyggos demo released this year on Klaxon Records just before they shut up shop.
