101:09 - The Top 101 tracks of 2009

So, Wow. This has taken me massively longer than I first anticipated, but since it was such a hit with people last year (and still gets big hits), and I enjoyed doing it so much, I really wanted to do it again this year. I have been in two minds about posting little blurbs for each track, but it would take me forever to finish if I set myself that task too, so I settled for making up genres in the file properties. maybe I'll come back to that later. If you want an explanation as to why something is higher than something else, or why some tracks aren't included, or why the hell some are, then just ask. Suffice it to say, I have deliberated over these long enough that this is pretty much a definitive selection of my tracks of the year in a definitive order - nothing arbitrary at all about it at all; oh no.

This isn't a chart of singles - I am not such a singles person really - so these tracks are here for a number of reasons. Some are taken from albums that weren't that great but featured one inspired flash of genius; others are representative of an awesome album as a whole; others are singles/downloads/demos and other assorted one-offs that are the kinds of reasons I like to do this single-song list in the first place; to bump the bands I like. It isn't totally correlated to the order of my top albums of the year either - coming next week! - but there are clues.

The only rules I restricted myself by were; Only one track per band/artist allowed (a really tough call in a lot of cases); and that if one track comprised an entire album then I couldn't include it, so albums/tracks like irr.app.(ext)'s 'Kreiselwelle' and Saito Koji's 'Beautiful' couldn't make it in.

So here they are, in descending order:

NFR Themes and Jingles

It's been a very long time since anyone has made us a new theme tune or jingle and we seem to have stalled in our ambition to make an album of 100 of them. These 6 here are as far as we got and each one is properly brilliant mini epic in it's own right. That each one was recorded especially for us and about us is amazing. We play these out whenever we DJ and put them in our mixes that we sometimes put out as limited edition CDs and up for downloading. The first one that was made for us was from Power Up who even got a voice actor in to record it for our DJ set at the Summer Sundae festival, and that then got played (twice!) on the BBC when they broadcast the set - so these are sneaky little buggers that get in to all sorts of unexpected places.

So, we are putting out our request again to anyone and everyone that would want to make us a theme/jingle/ident whatever you want to call it we'd love you to make it for us.

We reckon they should be 1 minute maximum (possibly only 30 seconds) and we'd also like some 10 second blasts of NFRness to smash in between tracks at our DJ sets. They should have some kind of vocal that says any combination of NFR, Not For Resale, Meatbreak and Fokka Wolfe. Other than that you are free to take them in any direction you want.

Here are the ones we have so far, in alphabetical order

Awesome Wells >>> NFR Jingle
English country garden sound collage

Deliberate >>> Theme From NFR Stomping electro crowd chant

Nullifier >>> NFR Theme Intergalactic neutron bomb track

Power Up! >>> NFR Jingle Glitchy twitchy electronics & voiceover

Pseudo Nippon >>> NFR Jingle Cosmic jebubu japano-core

Quiznight >>> NFR Theme 16-bit bass beast

xbx >>> Shut Up NFR Super short bitch slapped up

xbx >>> WolfMeat Jingle Our names get mashed up as this dude from Bethany Oklahoma slaps us about some more.

Dj Digital Dave - "Journey Is The Ish" -simple full vocal no cut-ups remix of "Dont stop Beleivin"

Johan Agebjörn remix of "The Chameleon" by Glass Candy - a disco floor with only you dancing dancing into a drug induced coma, you feel your lycra clad legs buckle under you and the next world calls out!

Grateful Dead x Flo Rida - "turn_casey_jones_right_round" - its a one line joke, its only been done cos the lyircs say "high on cocaine" in the first line! But its great.. though you realise how poor the original vocals are!

Ebola remix of "Meddle" by Little Boots - Not a fan of the Little Boots but its a good sparse dubstep remix!

Young Live B-More (Starters Dj's) remix of "Next Episode" Snoop Dogg feat. Dr. Dre
-What could be better than the original version? A sped up, more kinetic version with dubstep bassline and a Baltimore vibe, thats what!!
