VIDEO: Asian Women On The Telephone - pOHOTLIVAYA gORBUNIA iSCHET i nAHODIT

New video and track from the ever excellent Asian Women On The Telephone in which the band dredge up tranced out chains of dungeon clank and cackle.  The video collages together hellish visions and live footage to illustrate this somewhat more demonic slab of industrial drone.

Russian Dadaist industrial drone rock outfit Asian Women on the Telephone have released a new full length that utterly surpasses their previous work and many other records released this year. Similar street level clang and clatter to the likes of Religious Knives, Skull Defects, Mi Ami, Black Dice and original non-conformist dissenting confrontationalists like Einstürzende Neubauten, Faust, Throbbing Gristle and Suicide, ICanT has reconceived and energised their vision into producing the band’s most idiosyncratic and physically exciteable album to date.

As those preceeding references would suggest, theirs is a contorted melding of kraut, psych, industrial, and avant-garde elements all interlocked and playing off each other at any one time, certain aspects arcing out of each of the eight track with varying degrees of intensity.  Highlights are inevitably the parts where propulsive beats comes to the fore and suck the rest of the noise along in its slipstream, the grandest most sweat-inducing wide-eyed piece of them all literally having their thrall to the hypnotic embedded in its title: Vip-Maria-Viva-Trance.

The physical release is limited to 100 CD-Rs bound in hand-made silkscreen pentagon folders available through RAIG Records and Shiny Beast.

VIDEO: Asian Women On The Telephone - Poor Girl 88

Tribal chatter and rhythmic clatter conjoin in a helix of party music from the Russian Dadaist rock collective Asian Women on the Telephone.  Like an Eastern cousin to the US band Mi Ami by way of Congotronics, they blast distorted beats through ramshackle sounding amps in time to a heady body absorbing, mind expanding, consciousness expanding ego dissolving beat. Often atonal, dissonant and arhtmic in their performances AWOTT don't always cut this loose and feel this free, but while they're in this head space you should take the chace to fully follow them into it.

Download: Asian Women on the Telephone - Concerto Grosso D^9l ^blcoro c 6e^blM naykoM Oganian minor

Lots of Russian characters in that name that I can't easily replace.  Moscow's Asian Women on the Telephone have another new track to stream or download. More inspired dadaist industrial rumblings - this one slung real low to the ground, supple flexing, figure hugging subtle curves, few explosions, few fireworks just one simmering hot stew with lots of flavour.

Asian Women on the Telephone - Good Night Brighton Witch

Nikita of Asian Women on the Telephone emailed me to give me this track, which they've recorded as a dedication to my city, Brighton in response to all the love me and Fokkawolfe have been showering on them after getting hold of their albums a month or so ago and subsequently freaking out over the whole rich seam of crazy music there is to mine from the Russian underground.

The track they've conjured up is called Good Night Brighton Witch. I think they've nailed us. On a good night this really is what the backstreets of Brighton sound like - fucking hairy, blown out balling freestyled noise with some kind of dirty sexiness going on there even if you've got to pick it up off the pavement before you can properly check it out.  Nikita said the name of this track is actually reminiscent of this song from trashy Russian hair metal band EST called Good Night Brighton Beach. Check it out. It's trashy Russian hair metal.  The third and clearly most important influence in creating this track was A 259 Multiplex Bomb "Outrage" by Simon Strong; a book which takes place in Brighton and Hove in the early nineties, involves a time travelling murder mystery surrounding Jim Morrison, with plenty other musical references littered throughout it's warped narrative. Much like AWOTT themselves.

Nikita says "it's our thanks to you and hello to Brighton. wish to visit it some day. seems like very cool city"

Thanks Nikita. You seem like cool guys, and you have an awesome band. We'd love to have you here too.

VIDEO: Asian Women On The Telephone

This is the first ever video pop promo for Russia's psychedelic industrial gymnasts Asian Women on the Telephone, who I wrote about last month during my heated whirwind tour of the USSR's subterranean band scene.  A martial beat acts as the spine to the track, a rigid column along which garbled vocals rattle down and sticky streams of electronics drip. The visuals are collage, animation, overlay and projection, as much The Pink Floyd as they are propoganda and their use of slow repetition and dark tones is juxtaposed with frenetic bursts of colour that refract the activity of the music, working together to draw you along wth the narrative of frost-dried shrieks.

Asian Women on the Telephone

Eastern Europe seems to be producing some pretty fine guitar music of late - not including various kinds of metal, which this wide area consistently excels at - but recently there has been a lot of shoegaze, drone, post rock, witch house; bands like The Moglass, Arabian Horses, Love Cult, PinkShinyUltraBlast, Twilight Owls, and of course Prague's AMDISCS label who I have a pathalogical need to mention at least once a week.  Add to that, this band.

Asian Women on the Telephone is a Moscow-based junkyard art punk improv noise outfit whose self-styled 'purist Dada' experimentalism is very Throbbing Gristle in feel, if not exactly sound - a shifting clanking, urban dronescape, channelled thorugh multiple pedal manipulation with all sorts of bizarre vocals shreiked, hissed, and cackled at intervals through some of the tracks. Their Bandcamp site has three albums up for free download; two from earlier this year and one from last year.  All excellent, involving single minded entities that have a sense of multi-minded purpose:

Chelsea Grandpa

Holotropic Break
AWOTT III

They also have a split casette out on Full of Nothing records with Arabian Horses, available to order HERE

Beginning as a duo in 2007 AWOTT is now a five-piece incarnation, donning constumes, masks and involving all sorts of industrial and psychedelic paraphelia in their stage shows, which in this video makes for a menacing, unpredictable and unclassifiable experience:
